For Work and For Pleasure

Projects

Library Website in WordPress (2016) This is a prototype of a library website in WordPress for a workshop to show librarians how to put content where it would be seen by users.

EverythingAutism.org (2014) Everything Autism is a resource guide for the autism community in Clear Lake, created and maintained by me, but I haven't done much with it in a few years. It has a lot of family photos and accounts of daytrips plus resources for other families with a child on the spectrum.

MFAH TMS Data Standards Manual (2011)  Implemented standards for cataloging objects accessioned into the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. This project was funded by a grant from the IMLS (Institute for Museum and Library Services). These data standards are specifically for cataloging into a museum registration system called "TMS."

Articles & Letters
"Putting the Wagon Before the Horse: Implementing CCO in Gallery System's TMS" (2011). Concerning the implementation of descriptive cataloging standards for art museums, namely CCO, including a critical appraisal of the CCO as a metadata standard along with its controlled vocabulary, the Getty’s Art and Architecture Thesaurus (AAT).

"CCO as a Metadata Standard for the Retrieval of Museum Cataloging Records: A Critical Review" (2011). Review of a descriptive cataloging standard for museums, with consideration given to what extent such a descriptive standard, common to libraries, can be adapted to the workflows and systems used by art museums to achieve record sharing and data aggregation for large digital repositories.

"Teaching the Techie: The Search for Intelligent Instruction in a Cramped Universe."(2011). Texas Technology, March 2001, pp. 49-50. This was an article written to promote awareness of the value of Houston Community College as a training source for IT Certification training.

firstthings"Religion in the Academy," First Things, 1994, is an excerpted letter to Dr. George Marsden, Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, written while I was a graduate student at Indiana University. He submitted the letter for publication to First Things, where after I was interviewed by The Chronicle of Higher Education. In 1997, this letter and my experience was discussed in the book, Religious Advocacy and American History.
